House Concert FAQs
What is a house concert?
A house concert is a unique and fun way to share an evening of music, poetry, storytelling, and connection with your friends, family, and neighbors. They can take place in living rooms, backyards, or a community space if you live in an apartment or condo. You don’t need a massive space!
There is often food, drinks, and engaging conversation! It can be as simple or as lavish as you want.
I don’t have a big house. Can I still host a concert?
Yes! If you have a living room or backyard that can seat at least twenty people, you’re good! (You’d be surprised how many chairs you can fit in a living room.) And if not (or if you live in an apartment or condo), a community room/building can also work!
How many people should I invite?
An average house show has 20-40 people in attendance. What is beautiful about house shows is the intimacy. We’re looking for quality, not a stadium fill. I suggest you invite twice as many people as you want to come. Not everyone will say yes, and not everyone can come.
I don’t know that many people. Can I still host?
Yes! If you aren’t sure you know enough people to invite, you could team up with a friend and you both invite your friends.
How much does it cost to host a house concert?
It doesn’t cost anything unless you choose to purchase snacks, drinks, etc. Typically, house concerts are donation-based events, but tickets can also be sold. We can determine what is best. If donation based, the tip jar can be passed around the room at the end of the event. A suggested donation is $20-25, but people can give less if they aren’t able and can give more should they wish to do so.
How do I plan it?
The beauty of house concerts is that they are low stress! Once we select a date, we can discuss a start time. Then you can send a Facebook invite, Evite, and/or send emails to your network to let them know about the event. (I can assist you with invites if you’re not sure how to create a social media invitation.)
If you’re hosting outdoors, have them bring a blanket or lawn chair. Encourage your guests to bring a dish, and it becomes a potluck! Whatever happens, don’t stress! You’re hanging out with friends!
What is the evening flow of events?
It’s good to give guests an hour to arrive, get comfortable, and chat it up before starting. The show is usually 45-60 minutes.
I don’t live near you. Can you still perform here?
Yes, it’s definitely a possibility, especially if I can book another show between here and there!
I’m interested. What now?
Message me, and I’ll be in touch soon!
